The steady beats of a rampaging animal had triggered similar twitching in a pair of two long thin brown ears. Amber orbs were wide and alertful as a sturdy frame was still and unmoving. Jagged peaks rose from the velvetty surface of the mammals fine head, stretching and twisting their long twines up against the sky's rich blue color. Brush and other sorts concealed the majestic mammal within its safety, the woodland creatures that normally inhabited these trees were silenced, almost holding their breath in subtle fears of what the thundering foot falls might bring with them.
The large chestnut colored buck let his head shift only slightly, his observative opals wide and holding a soft fright in their deapths. The loudening thunder seemed to get closer and closer, with ever step the creature seemed to bring itself that much more towards the strong buck. His ears were up and listening, hopefully a breath would tell him of the creature's size, shape or even better, species. But he heard nothing, Naiko was slowly becoming nervous, it wasn't that he was scared of the approaching, whatever it was, it was the fact that although he could hear an approaching animal he couldn't see it. From his hiding place the buck was staring out at a flat field! Behind him, an enclosed backdrop.
Naiko's hooves fidgetted amoung the twigs and small saplings that were doing their hardest to blossum and grow. His body shifted to and fro as the thundering got louder and without warning the silence was shattered by a deafening scream. Its pitch was high and full of fright and helplessness. The large buck bleated frantically, though the rest of his body was frozen in spot. Darkness seemed to engulph him yet that deafening scream never seemed to die or get any softer. Its notes still as powerful as they had been when they first began.
Panting hard the large buck jolted awake, his sides were heaving and his body covered in a light layer of beaded sweat. His amber hues flew from one place to another in mild panic. However when the realization had come to him the young male let out a sigh. His head lowered for a moment as he recalled the day of the shrill scream, a shiver ran through his body and an almost icy grip had siezed his fast pacing heart.
After calming from the memoric dream, Naiko forced his body to stand. Long thin yet strong pillars held the mass of his weight. His head rising to a regal height as he looked around without the fogginess of the memory getting in the way. It was still but mid day yet and he had recognised where he was. It was a wonder he had failed to meet any of the inhabitants here yet, since his keen senses had picked up the faint oder of a herd, and other animals but a deer herd no doubt. A crystal clear lake extended out in front of him, its blue water looked inviting to a parched throat and after a moment's debate and a quick survailance glance around him he decided a nice long drink to calm the nerves would suffice.
Grace was born in the step of a deer, carrying it for the duration of their lives. It was a strange sight if a deer did not move in the majestic mannor of which many saw them as. Their heads usually head high and their long legs taking elegant steps, their tails, at least most, were always on end, their entire body moving in a soft flow. His head ducked low to escape the entangling bushes he had barcaded himself in for a nap. Stepping out of his makeshift bedding Naiko let his long neck sink slowly towards the water's edge. Unlike most creatures, the deer didn't lick up the water, no. Instead he dipped his muzzle only slightly into its warmth and drank. Simply breathing in the slightly cooled water.
It was refreshing, its cool taste accepted gratefully into his belly. It had been a while since he had tasted lake water, usually finding his drinks from small puddles or from the dew off the grass he ate. Twin ears laid back in relaxation as he took his time to drink, after all there was no real place he had to be anytime soon.

A warm, gentle summer breeze carried Naiko's scent into a pair of velvet nostrils. A regal head was lifted high, majestic, intimidating antlers balanced perfectly atop an auburn crown.
Baldor's hoof beats echoed in his ears as he cantered towards the lake, Naiko's scent fresh and strong. He had been on is way to the Home Thicket, where he was to meet Lachen, but the sun was high and the air hot, and the Azure Lake called to him, its cool waters so very tempting.
The Prince slowed to a trot as he emerged from the undergrowth. The terrain changed from dry mud and grass to hard sand. Baldor surveyed his surroundings in a superior manner, his dark eyes coming to a rest on the drinking Naiko. He paced quickly over to the stag and stood, tall and dominant, behind him.
"You're on my lands." Baldor said loudly. "Join my herd or get out."
He snorted and looked the buck over shamelessly. He was young, but strong. He would make a good warrior.

The thunder of hooves startled the younger male, head snapping up and away from the water's surface Naiko's ears shot upright to listen. Water poured off his chin, running down through the dampened hairs on his neck. The cool sensation was more then welcomed on a warm day like today had been. Amber hues shot around the lake in hopes of finding the source of the travelling animal. A slow step backwards had been made, his body sank slightly in uncertainty, his pillars ready to run should the creature bring him anything that could harm him.
Listening to the sure and confident strides of the mammel Naiko's knowledge wondered why a predator would bolt into such a noisy run if it was still a fair distance from the pending buck. No he now doubted it was anything with fangs, unless the carnivors around here were dumber then the ones he had grown up fearing. Finally vevetty nares took in a powerful scent. A deer, or more specifically a buck. Relieved he stood again more in confidence, no more steps back and no more frantic waiting.
Naiko waited patiently, dipping his head back into the coolness of the lake bed while his ears shot backwards. Vibrations underfoot were growing stronger and slowly he could feel the creature closing in. "Probably a member of the herd." Naiko's mind whispered in assumption as he continued to drink without disturbance. Suddenly the thundering hooves ceased, the young buck listened to gain knowledge of how far the other would be from his own location when a powerful tone rang out behind him. "You're on my lands." "Join my herd or get out." He knew now why his ears had failed to pick up the noise of the other's steps. It was because he was standing now behind the younger herbavor. Naiko didn't move, simply finished his drink in his own time. His back was towards the newcomer and undoubtedly a buck his tendons were vunerable so he doubted very much that the older buck would object to the wait. If he had, Naiko's side would have been ripped into by now.
Finally with his thirsts satisfied the male brought his head up again, his antlers heavy on his tiny skull but he lifted them up without much of a problem. "Your lands?" Naiko's soft yet mascu tone spoke with an air of elegance as he turned slowly to face the second buck. "I will take it you are the prince of these lands?" He said more of a statement then an actual question. Naiko obviously wasn't intimidated by a royal, they were doing their job, should there be no hassel they wouldn't bother to harm anything. "You know being so hasty like that could cost you further problems in the future." He said offhandedly. "You know nothing of me yet you've already offered a place in your herd. Wise to avoid trouble? Or foolishly inviting it into your world?" He asked pacing a few steps away, keeping his eyes on the other male.

Baldor snorted impatiently. The young buck was being impertinent, keeping him waiting while he drank. When Naiko finally turned, Baldor's dark eyes were blazing, his chest puffed out, his nostrils flared. He had not hurt the younger stag because he had assumed him stupid. Why else would he be so slow in giving the prince his reply? But as Naiko spoke, Baldor's opinion of him changed, and he scraped his hoof against the ground, his rage slowly building. The prince was not in the mood for this kind of thing. He rarely was.
"Shut your mouth, stag." Baldor snarled, jerking his head quickly up and down, massive antlers cutting through the air inches from Naiko's soft muzzle. "Only a fool would wander onto my lands if they didn't want to join the herd. Are you a fool? I don't like fools!" The prince roared the last bit, tossing his head more violently than before. His rage, which had risen steadily as he spoke, was close to bursting point. He had endured too much disrespect!
The large, russet stag took a single, threatening step forwards, his antlers quivering in anticipation. His terrible temper showed clearly in his furious eyes, which he fixed Naiko with, as if daring to wind him up further. His muscles were taught, anticipating a long awaited battle.
ooc: Bleh. Badness. Baldor gets so easily wound up! Lol!
